WHAT IS A PHOTOLUMINESCENT EGRESS SYSTEM?
Evacuating a building in chaotic, smoke-filled, darkened situation with low visibility can be life threatening. People become easily disoriented and panicked. Without an emergency way-finding system the potential for slips, falls, injury or fatalities becomes greatly increased.
A Photoluminescent Egress System provides a reliable alternative to the traditional egress markings. Traditional emergency lighting relies on electrical or battery power. Glow-in-the-dark egress systems use photoluminescent materials that absorb and store energy from any ambient or UV light then releases in the event of total darkness. A Photoluminescent Egress System is designed to provided continuous visible guidance ensuring orderly and safe evacuation in the event of power failure or disaster.
WHAT IS PHOTOLUMINESCENCE?
Photoluminescent materials contain a non-toxic, non-radioactive glow-in-the-dark compound. Materials containing this compound glow in the event of total darkness after exposure to a light source. Our photoluminescent products absorb and stores energy after exposure to a light source and releases this energy in the event of total darkness. This glow continues in two phases: the initial phase consists of a strong immediate glow followed by an accelerated decrease of the initial brilliance within the first 1/2 hour. Egress Systems products will emit glow for 6-10 hours depending on photoluminescence grade.
WHERE IS IT USED?
Egress Systems priority is safety. Installing a photoluminescent way-finding system for safe evacuation during power failure is required in most European countries and is quickly becoming required in Federal and Public buildings across the United States. An Egress System using photoluminescent products will provide a safe, illuminated path through stairwells, hallways and rooms which suddenly become dark in an emergency situation. Illuminated exit paths and clearly visible safety equipment reduce the panic and chaos caused by sudden power failure.
